What's happened so far

In January 2005 Fiona underwent major spinal surgery at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham. She had two titanium rods attached to her spine from her neck to her hips. Fiona spent most of the first six months of 2005 in hospital having suffered a number of post-operative complications. During this time one of her friends, Jenny Ardley, had the idea of raising money to send Fiona to a specialist rehabilitation centre. Out of this idea came Fi's Fund.

Finally, after two years of fundraising this dream is coming true - Fiona is spending the summer at Physability (a specialist rehabilitation centre for people with spinal injuries, based in Stroud, Gloucestershire) undergoing an intensive rehabilitation programme to maximise her chances of walking again.

Rather than sending out lots of updates by e-mail, Fiona is recording weekly video diary entries which will be appearing on the rehab updates page over on the Fi's Fund website. This way anyone who wants to know, can find out how she is doing (and those of you who don't want to know doesn't have to!).

Well it's taken us a while but we've finally got some videos up on the Fi's Fund website. Fiona has been keeping a video diary rather than a written one this time around and so there probably won't be that many postings here over the coming weeks, but keep an eye on her rehab updates page to see her diary entries there instead.

Just a quick note to say that Fiona is still without a proper internet connection but is otherwise OK. She's quite sore and very tired but the physio is going well and although she is finding it very hard work, she is enjoying it and is glad to have got the chance to do it.

Of course none of this would have been possible without the help of everyone who has donated to Fi's Fund which brings me to some other very good news (which the observant of you may have already noticed)... Fi's Fund has almost reached its target of £20,000!!! More information about the latest developments can be found on the main Fi's Fund website. We could never have got this far without everyone's help and words cannot express our gratitude to all those who have contributed.

Just a quick posting to let those who are following Fiona's progress know that she had moved into her flat where she will be staying over the summer while doing her rehab at Physability. The physio is going OK so far, very hard work for her but the staff at Physability are happy with the progress Fiona has made so far and are slowly building up the intensity of the work they are doing with her.

Unfortunately Fiona does not have an internet connection at the moment - a problem we are trying to rectify as quickly as possible. This means that for the time being there may not be very frequent updates, but keep an eye on the site and hopefully this may change soon.
